LayItLow.com - Lowriding For Real

This setup achieves maximum sound with minimum price. The first step is to always do it yourself. This install was all done by me and some friends. You save the most money here and even more important you can make sure everything is done right. Extra care was taken during the install to get the most out of it. The sound quality is near perfect. The factory noise dampening quality of the Cadillac provides me with no annoying vibrations inside the car. There are plenty of highs which aren't drowned out at all by just the right amount of tight, deep bass. This way you don't have to just feel the music but you can even hear it too!

There's more detailed information included in the picture descriptions below. You can also go to cadillac.s5.com/soundsold.html for clearer and larger images.

1990 Cadillac Sedan Deville slammed with Triple-Gold Dayton Wire Wheels and Red's Hydraulics that adjust for a 2.5" front and four inch rear drop. The engine is the stock V8 4.5 liter and provides plenty of HP to smoke all those tripped out Honda's.

It powers all the speakers from its location in the trunk, mounted on the sub box. This is hooked up using Monster Cable 4 channel low noise RCAs. 8 gauge Monster power cable comes from the battery. 14 gauge Monster speaker cable goes to the mids and highs and the subs are hooked up with 12. The connectors are all gold plated.

The PA's have a unique design which floats and angles the tweeter. Of course, these have been positioned so the tweeter is a direct shot toward the driver and passenger seat.

You can see in this picture (taken when the upholestry was removed for some acoustical dampening work) from outside the rear window their location is directly above the heads of any passengers in the rear.

Continous input power: 200 watts, Peak input power: 400 watts. These 12" subs are 8 ohm and have been wired in parallel and bridged to channels 5 and 6 on the amp. (This picture was taken when the back seat was removed and holes were cut into the trunk to increase the SPL inside the car.)

All the necessary steps were taken to make sure the box was built and sealed properly. Plenty of wood glue, finishing nails, counter-sinked wood screws and lots of silicone all seal and hold together over half a sheet of carefully cut 3/4" MDF which was used to construct the box.

The amplifier is installed on the back of the box and closed off with a hinged panel. There's two fans sucking air through to keep the amp cool. Of course, this picture was taken before I sacrificed my trunk space to the hydraulics. Visit the second page for the new box setup!

There are a total of 4 batteries with 4 solenoids in the install. Although each pump can handle 9,000+ PSI and the motors are rated up to 72 volts, I've kept the power down (to avoid cracking my frame up) with 2 batteries and 24 volts per pump.

This gives front, back, side to side, pancake and see-saw motions plus independent four corner drop.

The ride quality in the Caddy went from the "factory luxury" suspension to the "juiced, feel every bump on the rode about 10 times" suspension. The head unit has never skipped. You can see the switch box for the hydraulics in this photo.

It comes standard with dual-stage impact sensors, auto re-arming protection, anti-codejacking technology. Additional security features, such as hood ornament protection, have been added.

Alot of people ask how much total money I have put into the car and the standard answer you'll get is "too much". Hey, PMPN8EZ!

To insure quality sound there were no shortcuts taken during the install. The entire system is precise, from the battery hook up to the subwoofer box and everything in between. The system is mostly stealth. All the speakers fit in the factory openings. The PA 6x9's and 4's even fit nicely in the enclosures, which came with the factory Bose system, located in the doors and rear deck.

I've completely redesigned the subwoofer box to seal the subs from the trunk and better accomodate the hydraulics. Check out the next page for more info.

Future plans include a set of component speakers with tweeters hidden in the air vents of the dash (to allow a higher gain on the rear 6x9's and still pull the soundstage forward), a CD changer and possibly an MD changer mounted somewhere in the car (I'm trying to find a perfect spot for them to keep them out of the trunk). Also, if I can find the patience, I'll wait for some decent MP3 HU's to come out so I can get one for plenty of immediately accessible music.
